How it all began
54 years to fulfill my late father's dream!
In 1968, while still in Germany, my late father developed the Spiel mit!® Bau-System Universal, a unique set of hardwood building blocks for children, made from European beech. Dreams of commercialization were abandoned when we emigrated to SA; caring for his family took priority.
Spiel mit!® ("come play!"), is said by German children when calling friends over. The B&W pics show my siblings and I around our tower, I'm the 'baby', aged 4.
In 2021 my mom handed me my late father's 1968 file containing correspondence and drawings relating to the Spiel mit!® project. 54 years later I'm fulfilling my father's dream: the first batch was manufactured in February 2022.
Even though my father passed away in 2010, I'm sure he's quietly watching and happy to finally realize his dream.
